Tharp’s “Rabbit and Rogue” bows in Costa Mesa

Twyla Tharp’s new ballet “Rabbit and Rogue” made its West Coast debut Wednesday. It’s the featured work during American Ballet Theatre’s five-day stay at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. It was co-commissioned by ABT and the Center and stars Ethan Stiefel and Herman Cornejo. Read the review.

    Hats off to Tim as well. I just read his “Elfman’s Rabbit Hops” and he nails the trouble with this composition, which is its structure. So much ballet music can’t stand on its own, as he points out. And Tim had some nice turns of phrase about the score for “Etudes.” “The overture is…a breezy lacing of scales.” Perfect description.
