Here’s some bad news for “Mamma Mia!” haters

Hey, you may have been snickering about the very idea of “Mamma Mia!” as a movie, but guess what? It’s approaching the $300 million mark in worldwide box office grosses. The musical uses the songs of ’70s Swedish super-group Abba to create a story about multi-generational love in the Greek islands. Since its late ’90s beginnings in London’s West End, critics loved to hate the show, but it’s been a perennial audience favorite — even in notoriously fickle Las Vegas. (Looks like the movie’s popularity may even be having a spillover effect on the Broadway production.) The film version stars Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, and it’s still playing locally.
