I think the best way to honor the memory of the singularly gifted Eartha Kitt and mark her Christmas Day passing is by watching and enjoying this early rendition of “Santa Baby.” Anybody know who the three suspiciously drag queen-y backup singers are?

The backdrop is not the same–and the singers never appear in the same shot as Eartha Kitt. Also, the sharpness of the film between the shots with Eartha and the backup singers differs enough to make me suspect that they were added onto existing footage like many YouTube postings.
I saw Eartha Kitt on stage in 2006 off-Broadway in a forgettable new musical called “Mimi le Duck,” where she played a rather small role–but she still had it and was the best thing about the show.

What a class act! I had the pleasure of seeing Miss Kitt in concert in October 2008. She was wonderful, hitting every note and even doing the “charleston”. I feel fortunate to have seen one of her last great shows. Join me at http://www.runarounddiva.com/Music.html and let’s celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.
