Refund, you say? Bah! Humbug!
I’ve heard some grumbling that the new production of “A Christmas Carol” at the Kodak Theater, which featured Christopher Lloyd as Scrooge, was more than a little underwhelming. Here’s the Variety review.
Technical glitches at early public performances abounded — due, in part, to the show’s very tight rehearsal schedule and the special effects that were attempted. A hologram featuring Gene Wilder as Jacob Marley, for example, was nixed because it was deemed too elaborate to pull off in the time allowed. There’s plenty of evidence, too, that director/producer Kevin Von Feldt’s production was having some problems before it opened, and that he had a checkered track record as a theatrical producer.
Here’s a complaint, one of several I’ve received or heard about secondhand (and if anyone else wants to share their experience about this production, good or bad, please drop me a line):
I went to opening night of this play and what I saw was not even worthy of a High School play. I chose this play because of its star-studded cast, and of course it was at the Kodak Theater (which I hadn’t been to yet) so it was to be a special night. With all the (I’m assuming) upset people like me who saw this horrid performance, they had to have had a lot of e-mails. So to appease us, they offered us free tickets to other shows.
All I want is my money back, but all I’m getting is a big run around. Kodak Theater is not taking responsiblity in any of this and I can’t seem to get to Kevin Von Feldt’s office (gee I wonder why).
I’m just a mother that was trying to make my family enjoy the arts and its turned into such a nightmare. No one seems to be responible for anything anymore. And the little people are always the ones that get it in the end.
The Bah Humbug award goes to Mr. Hal Landon Jr. over @ SCR. We fell asleep watching it this year. he really thinks he is something!
Needs to hand over the role and move on.
Perhaps you’ve seen it too many times. I thoroughly enjoyed SCR’s performance, (Particularly Tom Shelton as Marly…). I thought Hal did a great job, he was especially adorable in the end. Anything becomes dull if you see it too many times, no matter how great it might be.
