A cunning ‘Vixen’ in Long Beach

OPERA REVIEW: The production is low budget and feels like it, but the singing pleases. Besides, where else are we going to see this charming opera? The Orange County Register, Jan. 18, 2009.

Good for Long Beach Opera. It sounds like the Company has regained its status as “the little company that could,” and there is something to be said for shoe-string productions, especially when compared to some things we have seen in grander venues where throwing money at a production seems sometimes to get confused with bringing love and artistry and understanding to the stage. I can’t believe that my own scheduling is going to prevent my seeing this effort, but thanks for your full report. I hope they sell out for the final performance, and the rest of the Season is also in the old LBO tradition. I love the Center Theater, by the way. It seems the perfect venue for a company on the scale of LBO. It’s nice to have somethings to brag about in one’s home town.
