Corona del Mar High School teacher claims he’s a victim of ‘Rent’ fallout

October 21st, 2009, 1:07 pm · 1 Comment · posted by PAUL HODGINS, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Ron Martin, a drama instructor at Corona del Mar High School, has been placed on paid leave — part of the fallout over a controverisal production of “Rent” that he staged at the high school earlier this year, Martin claims.

A toned-down version of the musical was canceled then reinstated by Fal Asrani, who was principal of the school at the time. She has since left the position. Martin denies allegations that he claimed to have been responsible for her departure.

There is something very rotten at Newport-Mesa Unified: funds for athletics are funneled through the CDM Foundation outside of Title IX laws; athletes are protected and given awards even when they threaten rape and murder; Superintendent Jeffrey Hubbard ignores a family’s please to protect their daughter from these same predator athletes; closed-door Board sessions result in hush money to former Principals; Newport Beach police Dept assigns a football coach as detective to the school; and, Hubbard spends tax dollars on private investigators to look into the background of good teachers like Ron Martin. WE NEED NEW LEADERSHIP IN NEWPORT-MESA UNIFIED.
