Winter Fantasy attendees pose with their purchase alongside Santa Claus.
Hey folks, if you are interested in doing something art-related after Thanksgiving, and you don’t want to deal with the crowds at the mall or the super stores, check out Winter Fantasy at the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach.
Under the shade of eucalyptus trees and atop sawdust-covered grounds, 170 artists and craftspeople are selling their handcrafted paintings, photography, jewelry, ceramics, clothing and lots of other stuff. Fake snow will intermittently spurt from machines in the “main square” near Santa Claus’ shack.
Sales and attendance were down opening weekend, but organizers and artists are remaining optimistic about the holiday sesason.
Winter Fantasy resumes Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday, as well as Dec. 5-6 and 12-13. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is $6 adults, $5 seniors, $3 for children 6-12, and free for kids 5 and younger.
For more info, call 949-494-3030 or visit www.sawdustartfestival.org.
Incidentally, I will be off for a couple of weeks after Thanksgiving. I’m going to Europe. So enjoy the posts of my colleagues, and we’ll get back in touch when I return.

This place is truly magical. It momentarily extracts you from Southern California and places you in the Winter Wonderland it elaborately creates. You’ll find music, art, clothing, and trinkets. The snow room was nice and no need to drive to the mountains to slush in it. Great for kids too.
