By now your favorite critic was planning to have reported on two events (Dudamel conducting the L.A. Phil in music by Salonen, Adams and Harrison; and L.A. Opera’s production of “The Barber of Seville,” starring Gunn, DiDonato and Florez) held over the weekend. But circumstances intervened.
On Saturday, a family member became ill and I spent 11 hours with her in the ER of a small hospital in the high desert (it’s not as glamorous as it sounds). The family member is now recovering nicely, thank you. That’s the important thing. But, as a result, you’ll hear not a word on Dudamel’s final program this year here. I hope to catch up with “Barber” on Wednesday. Just in case you’re wondering. Carry on.

Glad to know the family member is recovering nicely. As you said, that’s the important thing.
Happy to hear that the family member is doing better, and hope for a full and speedy recovery.
As a side note, it’s too bad you had to miss the LA Phil concert — IMHO, it was fun & interesting, with Formenti and the Harrison Concerto being the most noteworthy part of a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Ursula Oppens performed the Harrison concerto a few seasons ago with the Pacific Symphony. I heard that. Wonderful piece.
